Mujtaba Mirza
Virinder, Mujtaba Mirza
The project Tell Me Your Dreams aims to document and explore the human experience of dreaming. Dreams are a ubiquitous yet mysterious part of our lives. There is still no definitive answer to why we dream and what meaning or message they may carry. Yet some remain embedded in our memory, and some float away with time. Recalling memories of dreams is, in the end, a uniquely human experience which is not only a journey for the person, but an experience we can all share.
As an artist, my goal is to create work with a focused subject and theme, where the narrative is created by the subject. The subject of this work has evolved as I explored the idea of dreams and dreamscapes, from my own experience, as well as from some of my favorite literature. My approach is to be more conceptual, using documentary photography techniques and looking at ways in which I can incorporate different media in one space to create a unique experience.
The images and text included in this project were taken over several sessions with participants, guiding them through the process of recalling dreams. My goal was to capture the individual inward journey in their expressions and hope the viewers take that journey along with us.
