Kye Marshall
Fleeting Female Forms (#ii), 2019
Kye Marshall is an eclectic composer and cellist who brings to her photography her experience, vision and discipline as a professional musician. She is mainly a self taught photographer but has studied with Freeman Patterson and Andre Gallant. Marshall’s interests are eclectic but she does focus on abstract nature. Currently she is exploring iPhone photography, and the many intriguing apps and editing possibilities. Her work is in multiple private collections. She has had solo shows at the Axis Gallery, Canadian Music Centre, Fairview Library, The Window Box, Yorkville Library and has participated in many group shows.
Artist Statement
The winter world is transformed into a pristine flowing landscape creating sculpted formations of blowing swirling snow. In Fleeting Female Forms, Marshall captures the soft contours of female forms—on hills, in snow banks, on river sides. These fleeting images appear gradually, cloaked in sparkling crystals with the reflection of skies adding blue colour. Traditionally, and too often, the painted/sculpted naked female form has been exploited, abused and objectified. Fleeting Female Forms challenges this dominant paradigm, and seeks more female consciousness in the world.
